It’s the 1st CHS of Mumbai !!!
This Co-operative housing society was built in 1949 much before the Maharashtra Society Act came into existence. It was inaugurated by Mr. Morarji Desai; an Indian Independence Activist and former PM of India from 1977-1979.
This CHS has a rich history; one of the most differentiating factor of this building is that almost all the families have been residing since 1949, that is since the society was built, isn’t that interesting?
Apart from this this CHS has no objection or rule set for barring non-vegetarians yet all residents of Swadhin Sadan are pure vegetarians.
Situated at Road C, Marine Drive, it’s easily accessible from station and obviously it’s in one of the most prime locations of Mumbai and the fact is that almost all its residents have chosen this building because of its excellent and key location. It is near from major financial hubs like churchgate, nariman point, and marine drive making it easy for people to commute to and fro from work amidst the busy streets of Mumbai even in the early 1940’s until present.
The society members are very environmentally friendly. They are very conscious about the constant threats our natural resources face and believe in saving mother-nature by doing all that they can. Swadhin Sadhan has incorporated rainwater harvesting system in order to use water, apart from this the society also has its own bore well.
Society Members make sure that proper waste management procedures are followed by ensuring the residents separate their dry and wet waste; they are respectively collected by the society’s sweepers and put in separate bins; maintained and kept in the society’s premises. Swadhin Sadan follows good security procedures by keeping the rising crime rate of Mumbai. The society is CCTV cameras installed at various locations within the society. These cameras are monitored regularly 24×7 by a security guard apart from the other security personnel, they make sure the society is safe and secure at all times.
Due to its old structure it has undergone many renovations and all the internal plumbing has been changed in the society along with pipe line for Gas and has been updated regularly including repair work, gardening, painting etc periodically.
This is society that not only lives together but also enjoys together. They celebrate almost all festivals and also have an annual get together after Diwali. This is not a society it’s like a home for its members and they make sure their home in this city is safe, secured and up to date just like the way we would want our homes to be.
